About Centre for Mental Health and Counselling –Nepal (CMC-Nepal)
The Centre for Mental Health and Counselling –Nepal (CMC-Nepal) is a non-governmental organization working in mental health and development by providing mental health & psychosocial services and by imparting training for developing human resources in mental health and psychosocial counselling. It was established in May 2003 from the Mental Health Programme of United Mission to Nepal (UMN), in order to continue and further promote the work they had begun since 1984. This NGO is registered in Kathmandu District Administration (Registration no: 838/59), and has been affiliated in Social Welfare Council (affiliation no: 14822) of the Government of Nepal. CMC-Nepal has been working at community level, in close collaboration with government and non-government agencies in the prevention, treatment and promotion of mental health by directly working with service providers and beneficiaries, at various levels to increase knowledge and skills required in the management of mental health and psychosocial problems and to promote positive practices that prevent and cure mental health problems.
CMC aims to work through other organizations (governmental, NGOs/INGOs and institutions) to promote awareness and good quality mental health care by capacity building and support. The aim of CMC – Nepal is towards mainly indirect impact, which would make the organizations empowered and having the sense of ownership of work in order to carry out mental health & psychosocial support activities in their working area.
