CEFOT is the brand name of Cefotaxime Sodium 500 mg Dry Powder for Injection. This medicine is used to treat wide variety of bacterial infections by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. It is also used to avoid infections from certain surgeries as well. It doesn't treat viral infection like common cold.

Dose and Direction of Use

Use the Sterile Water For Injection provided to reconstitute. The reconstituted solution must be used immediately. CEFOT can be given as both I.V./I.M. injection. If given by IV route then make sure to inject slowly over 3 minutes to avoid any serious problem like irregualr heart beat. If you are using this medication at home, have proper knowledge with your doctor before using it.

Mode of Action

• Cefotaxime binds with bacterial transpeptidase and inhibits the cross-linking of Peptidoglycan.
• This leads to bacterial cell wall synthesis inhibition and thus, resulting in the death of bacteria.
• Cefotaxime has bactericidal activity.

• Known hypersensitivity to penicillin, cephalosporins or other components of drug

Precautions and Warning

• Use the disposable syringe/needle only once.
• Consult to your doctor if you have any medical condition such as kidney disease, intestinal disease, stomach disease before taking this medication.
• Consult to your doctor if you are breast feeding or pregnant. This medication pass into breast milk in small amount and is less likely to cause harm to the nursing infant. Use with caution after discussing with doctor.
• Use the medication till the full prescribed length even if symptoms disappear.
• Don't double the dose for the missed one.
