LOSAP 50 is brand name of Losartan Potassium 50mg. It acts on blood vessels and as the blood vessels relaxes there is proper flow of blood. In this way, this medication treats high blood pressure and lowers the risk of strokes in patient with high blood pressure.
Therapeutic Class
Angiotensin II receptor antagonist
Dose and Direction of Use
It is for oral administration.May be taken with or without food as directed by doctor. Use this medicine regularly.
Mode of Action
It blocks the binding of Angiotensin II to AT1 receptor.This results in decrease in Aldosterone release and decrease sodium and water reabsorption.Also results in vasodilation and finally decreases high blood pressure.
Uses
- Hypertension
- Hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy
- Nephropathy in type 2 diabetes
Contraindications
Don't use this medicine if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to this medicine
- 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy
- Severe hepatic impairment.
- The concomitant use of losartan with aliskiren-containing products is contraindicated in patients with diabetes mellitus or renal impairment (GFR < 60 ml/min/1.73 m2)
Precautions and Warning
- Losartan should be used with caution in renal artery stenosis, Aortic or mitral valve stenosis, Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- Dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with renal impairment if they are volume depleted
- Talk to your doctor about previous medical history especially liver disease or severe dehydration. Such patient should take this mediine with caution.
- This medication might make you dizzy. So, you can limit alcoholic drinks.
- Discontinue this medication if you are pregnant and consult doctor if you are breast feeding before taking this medication.
