Melol XL-12.5 is the brand name of Metoprolol Succinate 12.5 mg Extended Release Tablet. Dosage is based on your condition and response to the treatment. It is used to lower the high blood pressure, treat irregular heart rhythms and angina. It also prevents future heart stroke, heart attacks.

Dose and Direction of Use
Swallow the whole tablet by mouth with or wihtout food.
It is taken preferably in the morning.
Take it as prescribed by doctor.
Mode of Action
Metoprolol acts on beta adrenergic receptors of the heart.It decresases the release of renin,decreases the activation of beta adrenergic receptors in heart,decreases aldosterone release,decreases cradiac output and decreases blood pressure.It works by slowing down the heart rate and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood around the body.

Hypertension with:
- Heart Failure
- Angina Pectoris
- Post-MI
- Arrhythmia
Contraindications
- Patients with impaired hepatic function
- Patients with pheochromocytoma.
- Pregnancy Category C
- Nursing mothers: excreted in breast milk in very small quantities.
- Major surgery
Precautions and Warning
- Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding woman before taking this medication.
- Talk to your doctor about past medical history like liver disease, kidney disease or heart disease.
- Avoid this tablet with high-fat meals such as dark chocolate, butter and meat.
- Lifestyle changes like low-fat diet, exercise,not smoking and drinking alcohol may help this medicine work better.
- It may cause dizziness. If this happens to you, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
- It can hide symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.
- Do not stop taking tablet suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
