Mode of Action

Metformin lowers both basal and postprandial plasma glucose. It decreases glucose production by inhibiting gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, delays intestinal absorption of glucose and enhances insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
