Dose Type
Information

Therapeutic Class
Third Generation Cephalosporin + Beta-lactamse inhibitor
Dose and Direction of Use
Use the SWFI provided to reconstitute and the reconstituted solution must be used immediately. TOMAVEX can be given as both I.V./I.M. injection.
Mode of Action
- Cefoperazone binds with bacterial transpeptidase and inhibits the cross-linking of Peptidoglycan.
- This leads to bacterial cell wall synthesis inhibition and thus, death of the bacteria.
- However, some bacteria produce Beta-lactamase enzyme that breaks the beta-lactam ring of cefoperazone thus, making it ineffective.
- In such a scenario, Sulbactam provides its own Beta-lactam ring as a substrate for Beta-lactamase enzyme thus, saving Cefoperazone which then exerts its bactericidal activity.
