Colecalciferol is one type of vitamin D. Vitamin D is obtained by exposure to sunlight and also through diet. Foods that contain colecalciferol are oily fish (such as sardine, herring, salmon and tuna) and eggs. Your body needs adequate supplies of vitamin D in order for it to absorb the calcium that you eat or drink in your diet.

Dose and Direction of Use
Tear open the sachet and pour the powder into a glass. You can take it as prescribed by your doctor, but generally it is recommended to be taken with milk. This is because milk also contains magnesium which promotes the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Your dosage is based on your medical condition, amount of sun exposure, diet, age, and response to treatment.
Mode of Action
It is converted in the liver to calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D) which is then converted in the kidney to calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D). One of its actions is to increase the uptake of calcium by the intestines.

Contraindications
Don't use this medicine :
- If you are allergic (hypersensitivity) to Colecalciferol
- If you have high levels of vitamin D in your blood (hypervitaminosis D).
- If you have high levels of calcium in your blood (hypercalcaemia) or urine (hypercalciuria)
- If you are suffering from kidney failure, have kidney stones (renal calculi) or have a tendency to form kidney stones
Precautions and Warning
- Consult you doctor if pregnant or breast feeding before taking this medicine.
- Talk to your doctor about medical history like liver disease, kidney disease, high vitamin D level, high calcium level, heart disease.
- Colecalciferol should only be given to children and adolescents aged 12 and over.
