ZANTOR 40 helps to lower levels of uric acid in the blood. It works by blocking an enzyme in the body called xanthine oxidase and prevent gout flare-ups.
Therapeutic Class
Antihyperuricaemic Agent (Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitor)
Dose and Direction of Use
Swallow the tablet whole by mouth. You can take it with or without food. Don't crush, chew or break the tablet. Follow the dose and duration as prescribed by the doctor.
Mode of Action
Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism in humans and is generated in the cascade of hypoxanthine → xanthine → uric acid. Both steps in the above transformations are catalyzed by xanthine oxidase (XO).Febuxostat is a 2-arylthiazole derivative that achieves its therapeutic effect of decreasing serum uric acid by selectively inhibiting XO. Febuxostat has been shown to potently inhibit both the oxidized and reduced forms of XO. Thus, uric acid level is reduced.

Treatment of chronic high level of uric acid in conditions where urate deposition has already occurred (including a history, or presence of, tophus and/ or gouty arthritis).
